The staff at Willowdale Estate recently had an opportunity to host a Bridal Shower celebrating one of our very own – Kate McCarthy, from our culinary team! Inspired by her love of all things pink, Kate’s shower incorporated a ‘Kate Spade theme’ with a modern mix of black and pink design elements, which worked in perfect contrast to the oak walls of our Glass Conservatory. Perfect Fall Beverages
It’s time to get into the spirit of the season by serving colorful cocktails, punches and seasonal drinks at your parties! We have four drink ideas that not only have the perfect seasonal colors of red, gold, orange and amber but they are simple to create and taste great too!
RED APPLE CIDER SANGRIA
1 bottle red wine
2 cups apple cider
½ cup orange juice
½ cup brandy
Fruit: apples and/or pear
Pour the wine, cider, juice, and brandy into a large pitcher or punch bowl. Ice this drink to chill, or prepare early and refrigerate until ready to serve. When you are ready to serve, spoon out some of your fruit garnish into a wine glass and then add in your sangria over the fruit. Garnish the wine glass with a cinnamon stick or orange slice!
THE GOLD RUSH – (close cousin to the HOT TODDY)
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons boiling water
1/2 cup bourbon
1 1/2 lemons, juiced, about 4 tablespoons
Pour honey into a small jar or mixing bowl. Pour in the boiling water and whisk vigorously until they form a thin simple syrup. Whisk in the bourbon and lemon juice. The beauty of this cocktail is you can serve it as a Hot Toddy or to make this drink into the Gold Rush, simply shake it with ice and pour it into a cocktail glass with or without rocks. (makes 2 drinks)
4oz Dark Rum
4oz Gold Rum
5oz Pineapple Juice
5oz Orange Juice
¾ oz Granadine
6 dashes of Angostura Bitters
Combine your Dark Rum, Gold Rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, Grenadine and Angostura bitters into a pitcher ⅓ full of crushed ice . Churn vigorously until a frothing appears or mix in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a collins glass with or without rocks.
RECIPE & INSTRUCTIONS
If you aren’t one for a cocktail, try a Beertail! Pour Southern Tier’s “Pumking” into Pilsner Glass and garnish with Cinnamon Stick or try a Cinnamon Sugar Rim on the glass.

Perfect Summer Beverages
Have you ever noticed that on a hot day the most fashionable accessory at a summer party is a refreshing drink? As a service-obsessed event venue we know that quenching our guests thirst is one of the first orders of business for every summer event! So how should you take care of this crucial detail at your next party? Well, have no fear – we have the perfect ideas from simple drink stations to impressive cocktails, right here!
PASSED SIGNATURE COCKTAIL – At larger Willowdale events we usually offer a passed drink as guests are entering the ceremony or reception. The Mojito is a refreshing combination of rum, sugar, lime juice and mint served over ice and soda water. This beautiful clear drink looks great with a festive straw or custom stirrer! The Grapefruit Margarita on the right is equally simple to make- with equal parts tequila, grapefruit juice and triple sec this thirst quenching drink is completed by shaking with ice and topping your glass with a lime wedge and a salt rim.
SELF SERVICE DRINK STATIONS – A self service drink station works great for non-alcoholic beverages like water, lemonade or iced tea. Serving a mocktail, punch, or non-alcoholic beverage from a beautiful beverage dispenser with a spigot is a great low maintenance way to serve drinks at an event that can look beautiful too.
DRINK STATION – A drink station with themed decor is a fun idea for smaller events like a bridal or baby shower. This adorable mimosa bar with a “Sip Sip Hooray” chalkboard sign was setup for a small wedding shower at Willowdale Estate. Guests could choose a mixture of fresh orange juice, grapefruit, or a combination of both with the chilled Prosecco. A Cava, champagne or any other sparkling wine would work well too!
Our clients are always impressing us with cleaver summer cocktails- if you liked this post you might like our “Four 4th of July Cocktails Post” from last summer!

REAL WEDDING – Nicole & John
Nicole and John were married at Willowdale Estate in late November of 2014. They chose photographer Jamison Wexler who is known for his stunning portraits. We had trouble choosing which portraits to feature here because they are all SO GOOD! The image below shows the Nicole and John on the Ipswich River walkway with the sun setting behind them.
For a couple with such great style they also had a very fashionable cocktail– champagne with a gold rim! To get this look on any golden cocktail just find some gold rim sugar and apply generously to add a swanky and sweet detail to your drink.
Guests enjoyed a simple and elegant table with lots of candle light and lanterns, which looks perfect for a winter wedding. This mansion wedding was the very last weekend of November and included Willowdale Estate’s holiday decor. The neutral ribbon textures, garland, lights, and white poinsettias look perfect with the ivory and gold colors of this wedding.
