HISTORIC DETAILS: Great Room
When BRADLEY PALMER resided at WILLOWDALE ESTATE , he had many significant visitors including William Howard Taft and the Prince of Wales. In the 1920’s, he renovated the South Wing of the house and added the Great Room to entertain and host elegant dinner parties.
Today the Great Room is one of the main spaces on the property used for dinner and dancing during the mansion season and as cocktail space during the tent season. The large room has cathedral ceilings with a brass candelabra chandelier, exposed wooden beams and a beautiful piano – the perfect balance of rustic and elegant. The open floor plan is fitting for a variety of event layouts and can be used with the adjacent DINING ROOM or Conservatory.
A cherry wood orchestra balcony carved with intricate ornate detail overlooks the open floor plan and continues to be used for live entertainment just as it was during Bradley Palmer’s time.
Our custom wooden bar matches the wood elements throughout the house and resides in the Great Room during the tent season.
Large scale built in shelving and a decorative fireplace is structured directly across the room from the orchestra balcony.
The mantle is etched with many details including an inscription in Latin which translates to: “Look back, Look Ahead – Today, Live”. The large mantle and shelving provides a great opportunity to decorate seasonally and to personalize weddings and events.

Planning Your Corporate Holiday Party
As a busy event and wedding venue in Massachusetts, we understand one of most the important elements necessary for a hosting a successful event lies in the details, which is why decorating for the holiday season is a no small feat at Willowdale Estate. There is a unique charm here that radiates during the Christmas and holiday season.
Special décor is displayed throughout the estate and includes beautiful white outdoor bulb lighting, garland in the Conservatory and Great Room, mantle displays and outdoor wreaths. A neutral palette is incorporated using burlap textures, mercury glass and soft lighting creating the perfect atmosphere for corporate Christmas parties and holiday celebrations.
Our on-site catering team, Willowdale Kitchens, has many culinary options weather you choose to host a dinner party and serve a 3-course meal or a corporate cocktail event, Willowdale Estate offers a robust menu that can be tailored for your guests. Our curated cheese and crudite station offers a variety of vegetables, cheese, crackers and housemade dips and is a great way to start off your corporate Christmas party or holiday event. Our new Beverage Menu presents a great opportunity to serve a seasonal themed cocktail that can be passed by our waitstaff or simply served at the bar throughout the night. Beertails, (a cocktail made with beer), are becoming increasingly popular and you can’t go wrong with a warm mulled wine or stone fruit sangria during the cooler months.

Renee & Ben – A Colorful Summer Wedding
When a wedding design includes pink flamingos, huge paper flowers, and lots of bright colors you know it is going to be a FUN time. Renee and Ben got married on a beautiful summer day at Willowdale Estate. The vibrant colorful details that decorated every aspect of their ceremony and reception were so joyful and unique. GETTING READY & FIRST LOOK
Renee and Ben arrived at Willowdale Estate early so they would have plenty of time to eat, drink, and take photos before the ceremony. The bridesmaids each wore a different gold cocktail length dress with metallic or sequin details. Our favorite portraits of the couple show how happy this couple is together- and this is BEFORE they said “I Do”!
The ceremony was in the Garden Courtyard at Willowdale Estate. As guests arrived they saw large white balloons tied down with colorful ribbon, a cheerful sign greeted them along with our staff passing Cucumber Mint Water and Prosecco. In the entryway there was a paper flower sculpture that stood over 6 feet high. This whimsical entrance set the tone for all of the other details that were to come! The focal point of the ceremony was a custom arbor design with a flush of large handmade paper flowers, real flowers, and ribbons of green, fuchsia, pink and orange.
After the ceremony Willowdale Estate servers passed a Spicy Margarita cocktail made complete by a fun pink flamingo straw. In the Great Room, there was a truly unique escort card display. Green and glittery gold escort cards hung from the mantle from gold beads that were adorned by mini paper flowers and honeycomb balls. Guests enjoyed drinks and passed appetizers in the estate and even got a glimpse of the Wedding Cake displayed in the Dining Room at Willowdale Estate.
If you thought the first half of this wedding was fun wait until you see the tent! Our sperry tent was decorated by a huge custom paper honeycomb garland that hung across the entire length of the tent. The guest tables had a mixture of high and low centerpieces on both round and white farm tables. The courtyard was decorated with furniture and fun wedding pendants.
We love to see a great wedding theme that is truly unique, and the best part is- the vibrant personality and joy from the wedding certainly comes through in the photos! For even more photos check out the post from this couples fantastic photographer here!

One of our favorite sources for event inspiration is Bliss Celebrations Guide, a magazine and website dedicated to fresh and modern event ideas. We were thrilled to find a recent tent wedding at Willowdale Estate featured in their latest magazine!
The event is full of luxurious details including our Sperry Tent with draping from Revelations Productions, floral design from Winston Flowers, lighting from Design Light, and a beautiful cake from Konditor Meister.
Spring at Willowdale Estate
Like most people in New England, we start to look for the first signs of Spring as the snow starts to melt and the days start getting warmer in March. Last year we had the pleasure of hosting a beautiful Mansion Wedding in late March for Lindsey & Shannon.
