The Grounds of Willowdale Estate

Willowdale Estate sits in the heart of the 747- acre Bradley Palmer State Park. Originally, this lot of land was empty fields with views of the Ipswich River. Since then, the landscaping has changed and the park has become a heavily forested area for the public to enjoy.

Mr. Palmer was extremely dedicated to his garden and grounds. So much so, that his gardener and the majority of his plants were brought from Scotland. Some of these trees and plants remain around Willowdale Estate today, putting them over 100 years old.

Even though the view of the Ipswich River from the mansion is partially blocked due to all the growth, there is now a footbridge with trails and a nearby launch for canoes and kayaks. This is a beautiful spot for photos in the woods and by the river. This bride and groom decided to have some photos taken in a canoe for a champagne toast. Other couples stay on land and get some stunning sunset and foliage photos.

It’s amazing to see the change and there’s so much to see on these trails, especially during different seasons. Right now you can see some locals following in Mr. Palmer’s footprints by riding their horse around in the park.
